The flying carpet is heading to Broadway! Tickets are now available to see Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, the Genie and Jafar on the Great White Way this spring. The Disney musical, adapted from the hit 1992 animated comedy, will begin performances at the New Amsterdam Theatre on February 26, 2014 with an opening night set for March 20.
Directed and choreographed by Tony winner Casey Nicholaw, the production will star Adam Jacobs in the titular role along with Courtney Reed as Jasmine, James Monroe Iglehart as the Genie and Jonathan Freeman as Jafar. The show also stars Brian Gonzales, Brandon O’Neill and Jonathan Schwartz as Aladdin’s sidekicks Babkak, Kassim and Omar, Clifton Davis as Sultan and Don Darryl Rivera as Iago.
Aladdin is the story of a street urchin who uses the help of a magic Genie to win the heart of Princess Jasmine. The Broadway musical features a book by Tony winner Chad Beguelin, music by Oscar and Tony winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Beguelin, Oscar and Tony winner Tim Rice and the late Howard Ashman, also an Oscar winner.
Aladdin includes scenic design by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Natasha Katz, costume design by Gregg Barnes, sound design by Ken Travis, hair design by Josh Marquette and illusion design by Jim Steinmeyer. The creative team also includes music supervisor and director Michael Kosarin, orchestrator Danny Troob and dance music arranger Glen Kelly.
Aladdin is currently receiving a pre-Broadway premiere at Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre, where it began performances November 13 and is set to complete January 5, 2014.
